The Dress That Makes The Woman
Fort Collins Lincoln Center

Fort Collins, Colorado

One Year. Twelve Dresses. One artist’s challenge to create and to wear a work of art for each month of the year.

In her series, The Dress That Makes The Woman, Garcia intended to embark upon a ritualized creative challenge: to wear and to work daily on a dress for one month at a time for an entire year. With this project came a year of love, loss, struggle and couture –the honest mess of one woman’s daily life.

Friday, September 20: ArtWear Fashion Show:, 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., $50 -$65. Tickets include a wine reception and early bird shopping in the Sales Gallery after the 8 p.m. show. Click here for tickets

Foundation on Parade, St. Botolph Club

Featuring work by 2013  recipients of  the St. Botolph Club Foundation Emerging Artist Fellowship.

On display will be images and textiles related to my project titled, Cloaking Device.

In the Cloaking Device, Wylie Sofia Garcia explores theories of energy fields, protection devices, camouflage, and what it means to visible, yet unseen.  This subject has led her to survey the visible/invisible spectrum of the human energy field, vintage camouflaging techniques, holography, needle felting and time travel.

The Cloaking Device is a hand made needle felted dress made with dyed raw wool roving and spandex.
